Doctor & Staff
Get to know the experienced and friendly doctor and staff who make Dr. Melman’s Eyeland the leading provider of vision care products and services in Voorhees.
Doctor Edward Melman has been in private practice in Voorhees since 1983. Devoted to providing top notch personalized care, the whole office strives to create a meaningful and useful experience to all our patients. Doctor Melman has a special interest in contact lenses and low vision and has been a long time member of the contact lens and low vision sections of the American Optometric Association.
Doctor Melman has an interest in the effects of nutrition on the eye and was asked to be on the board of the Nutritional Optometry Institute. Other memberships include the Ocular Nutrition Society, The Vitamin D Council, The Ocular Surface Society of Optometry, iDoc and the PowerPractice. He has served as the President of the West Jersey Optometric Society for many years.
In 2006 he was named the official team doctor for the Camden Riversharks baseball team and has returned to that role in 2012. He remains one of the top private practice users of daily disposable and bifocal contact lens designs in the region. Corneal molding with overnight contacts to eliminate the need for correction during the daytime is another specialty lens that we have had good success with in controlling myopia progression. This is often described as orthodontia for the eyes.
Doctor Melman has given continuing education lectures on eye disease, diabetes and dry eye conditions and has also given talks on child vision care and low vision. In 2012 he caught an epidemic of viral conjunctivitis and wrote the cover article on the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians Journal.
His wife (a pediatrician) and three children have helped stimulate his interest in children’s eye care. Locally, he is a member of the Voorhees-Gibbsboro Lions Club, the Voorhees Business Association, and Congregation Ner Tamid. Personal interests include chess, folk dancing, politics, international affairs and sports. He tries to keep in shape with participation in the JCC adult basketball league.
Anita has been Eyeland’s Licensed Optician since the beginning of time (or so it seems) and takes great joy in finding the perfect frame lens experience for patients of every age. She is married to the builder of our office, Menashe, and has 3 wonderful children. In the spirit of work experience and slave labor they have all enjoyed working at Eyeland. She has also volunteered as treasurer of Art Goes To School Cherry Hill for over 20 years. Test her art knowledge if you dare!
Samantha is your go-to girl for anything you may need. Her many specialties range from contact lenses to pharmaceuticals to that next fashion forward frame. Balmer started off in our office as a part time file scanner and worked her way up to a full time rock star at our office! She is always willing to step in and assist with the many different aspects of our office. Hailing from Texas, this chica will not let you leave this office without everything you could possibly need.
In addition to being an employee at Eyeland, Patti is a board member and former teacher. She recently made a career shift and found herself loving the personal but professional touch we provide patients at Eyeland. She likes to have her hand in many different things and loves to cook and bake.
Lisa is an Optometric scribe at Eyeland and is very excited to be a part of the team! She has always been passionate about science and studied biology as her major in undergrad. She also has spent the past five years immersed in the magical field of marketing.
In her spare time, Lisa loves all things fitness, food, family and fun. When she’s not doing any of that you can probably find her at her closest craft store dreaming up her next creative masterpiece!
Chris is our insurance go to girl. She loves nothing more than confirming benefits and billing for any balances left behind. Chris has a big sweet tooth so if you bring her treats she will be your best friend!
Patient Care Coordinator/Insurance
Jenn is our all around go to assistant. She can be found at check in, pre-testing patients, confirming insurance, as well as making sure your contact lenses have been ordered and updating our office communications.
When she is not at Eyeland, Jenn spends most of her time supporting her 3 kids at their various sporting events. If she can find personal time, she loves to cook and bake.
Sara is our assistant ophthalmic technician and medical scribe. She is a recent Temple University graduate where she studied Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. She is currently exploring the options of starting med school or becoming a nurse practicioner.
Sara is a strong asset to our team and enjoys working in the exam room with our patients. You will usually find her running around the office, typing in the exam room, or finalizing perscriptions. In her free time Sara loves playing volleyball and getting acupuncture.
Front Desk/Check in
Kate is the first person that everyone sees as they enter Eyeland. She checks in all our patients and pretests them before they go into the exam room. She is a 2014 graduate of Rider University. While this is a new career field for her, she is happy to learn something new every day.
She is the biggest animal lover (especially dogs) and when she is not at Eyeland, you will find her playing one of her favorite sports, Disc Golf!
Ayanna has recently joined our Eyeland family. She is currently going to school to become a licensed optician. She has already learned so much from working at Eyeland! Ayanna really enjoys helping patients, especially when it comes to searching for the perfect pair of glasses.
Her favorite football team is the Seattle Seahawks and she loves to go hiking in her free time.
